SR.GRAZIA VAZ, dsp - FIRST DIRECTRESS OF CEC BANGALORE
It was on July 1st 1977, that the Bangalore Catholic Enquiry Centre (CEC) was entrusted to the Daughters of St. Paul by the late
Archbishop, Most Rev Dr. P. Arokiaswamy. At that time it was situated above Pauline Book and Media Centre, at Museum Road.
Sr. Grazia Vaz was appointed as its first Directress by Rev. Sr. Pierluisa, the then provincial of the Daughters of St. Paul. With great
generosity and dedication, she took charge of the mission entrusted to her: that of bringing the Good News of Jesus to those who do not
know Him, through the Free Correspondence programmes. She also carried out various activities in order to reach out to the poor and the
needy. In fact, it was Sr GraziaVaz who approached the Authorities to obtain permission to visit hospitals and other Institutions
run by the Government. Thanks to her tireless efforts, the Government still grants us permission, year after year, to visit the Kidwai
Cancer Hospitals, Remand Homes and other Institutions to bring joy and cheer to the inmates, during Christmas.
We greatly appreciate her courage and fearlessness in bringing Christ to people of all faiths. She really put her heart
and mind into the responsibility entrusted to her, depending totally on the Lord, through constant prayer. She worked
hard from scratch. She started looking out for co-workers to assist her in this mighty task of proclaiming the Good News.
The Lord rewarded her efforts by sending generous collaborators who stood by her and helped her in this great work,
in various capacities.
We thank God for the gift of Sr. Grazia Vaz to us and in gratitude for the work and help rendered by her we ask god to grant her the gift of eternal life.
